Little Comfort Farm certainly belies its name!
Nestling in a quiet and sheltered valley in a secret and unspoilt corner of North Devon, the traditional and attractive buildings have been transformed into comfortable cottages, furnished and equipped to a good standard throughout.
The situation is idyllic; the farm is managed according to organic principles, with cattle, sheep, pigs and chickens, allowing an abundance of wildlife and wonderful plants to thrive in the peaceful valley and offering surroundings which are serenely remote from crowds, noise and traffic. The cottages each enjoy their own private gardens with barbecue areas.
The valley is amazingly beautiful and contains a wealth of wildlife. We are very keen to manage the land to preserve and enhance this unique valley.
The little River Caen flows through the farm, feeding a long established lake well stocked with coarse fish. Extending to 1.5 acres, the lake offers high quality fishing and visitors are welcome to try their skill here.
The lake is open from Dawn until Dusk and features the following fish: Big Carp, Orfe, Rudd, Roach, Bream. The best fish of the year was an 18lb 2oz Common, and the best day reported was a magnificent bag of 15 Carp. Much enjoyment has been had with the other species with large numbers of Roach, Bream and Rudd caught.
We offer the choice of six self-catering cottages sleeping from 2 to 43 (if all cottages are booked together). Four converted from original stone farm buildings, the fifth is an annexe to the farmhouse and the sixth an old stone watermill. Each property has individual access and parking as well as its own garden and terrace. Five of the cottages have woodburning stoves with all logs provided for cosy evenings in. There are laundry facilities on site, shared freezer, a pay phone and a playroom for younger visitors. Dogs are always very welcome.
