| Set
in the very heart of Dartmoor National Park with its breath-taking scenery
Prince Hall, built in 1787, is an intimate country house hotel which retains
the atmosphere of a most welcoming home.
The beautifully
proportioned hotel enjoys a spectacular setting in its sheltered, south-facing
position, and the view over the West Dart River onto the rolling hills
beyond is magnificent.
Fishing
The West Dart River flows at the foot of the hotel grounds,
giving anglers of all levels immediate access for this noble sport.
With
a Duchy of Cornwall licence in hand, the tranquil or bubbling, deep or
shallow waters from River Cowsic in the north to Dartmeet in the south,
Oakery Bridge to the west and Babeny Bridge to the east, can be fished.
For
novices, instruction is available which includes casting techniques and
knot-tying, as well as practical river time, with one of the country’s
most able anglers, Brian Easterbrook. Experienced rods might also enjoy
booking some time with him to learn from, and enjoy, his expert knowledge
of the local waters.
A
small supply of flies particularly suited to the local waters and
Duchy of Cornwall Licences are available at Reception.
Environment Agency National Rod Licences are available in Princetown.
Cuisine
Time and again
our guests return – to eat in our AA-rosetted restaurant. Our breakfasts
provide an excellent variety of satisfying and healthy options; a substantial
packed lunch is available upon request; and, at the end of the day, dinner
is a relaxing event whose content focuses on local produce (we’ll
even cook your catch for you!), with a daily changing menu combining the
best of classic cooking with appropriate current trends. An interesting
wine list of some 50 bins from across the world, an entirely local Cheese
Board and some prime malts, cognacs and ports can complement and conclude
an enjoyable day on the water.
Accommodation
The nine spacious and light-filled en suite bedrooms are individually
and stylishly furnished. While our Deluxe rooms enjoy magnificent moorland
and river views, the views from our Standard rooms provide the moorland
visitor with other local, attractive characteristics. Extra features throughout
the hotel include exposed beams and stone walls, original fireplaces and
sash windows, and two four-poster beds.
