Launch of Anglers National Line Recycling Scheme (ANLRS)

Orvis UK
March 11 2019

Orvis UK is delighted to announce a recycling partnership with the Anglers National Line Recycling Scheme (ANLRS), as the first fly fishing company to join the initiative.

The scheme, which is the first of its kind in the United Kingdom, has identified a sustainable route for fishing line to be recycled.

Over 185 shops have already signed up to the ANLRS, together with several fisheries, angling clubs and charter boats. Orvis UK is the first fly fishing company to partner, offering recycling points in all 18 of its UK-based stores taking the total to over 200 shops.

The scheme, founded by the Local Independent Sea Anglers (LISA) in conjunction with the Global Ghost Gear Initiative (GGGI), has a clear national identity which covers all angling disciplines: “something the whole of angling can agree on” – the slogan was born.

The ANLRS was launched in early 2018 and it remains a joint LISA/GGGI project which is run on the same, purely voluntary non-profit basis. Funding the scheme comes via donations from anglers, tackle shops, fisheries and manufacturers.

Viv Shears, Co-Founder at the ANLR Scheme said, “There are certain moments as a scheme, such as the ANLRS, develops that feel like big steps forward and having Orvis become a corporate sponsor is one of these. The scheme is something that uniquely encompasses all of angling in its various forms and to have one of the most respected fly-fishing brands supporting us is fantastic. We look forward to developing our relationship and allowing fly anglers to recycle their old monofilament, braids and especially fly lines via the Orvis stores across the country.”

James Doyle, Retail Sales Manager at Orvis UK added, “Orvis UK are delighted to partner with the ANLRS by offering fishing line recycling bins in all of our UK stores. The ANLRS offers the most environmentally effective route to fishing line recycling in the UK and we’re inviting anglers across all disciplines to recycle fishing line in any of our Orvis UK stores nationwide.”
